Barely four weeks after university lecturers under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)called-off their five months strike, lecturers of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, have threatened a showdown with the university Management over issues bordering on welfare,  facilities and  tuition fees.

The union alleged that several letters written and meetings with the Management, Governing Council and the Lagos State Executive Council Ad-hoc Committee have failed to address the issues, noting that  danger lies ahead for the long-term prosperity of the university, if nothing is done.


University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) chapter, have berated the state Governor, Rochas Okorocha over what they described as delay in the payment of their bursary awards.

It all started last week as  members of the association in the university convened for a weekly meeting at the prestigious Love Garden on campus. During the meeting, no fewer than 100 students complained that they needed their bursary awards as indigenes of Imo State.

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), at the weekend, said total transactions through its trading engine in the 11 months between January and November last year stood at N1.908 trillion.

The figure for the first 11 months of 2013 is already almost N591 billion of 44.87 per cent more than the N1.317 billion recorded for the whole of 2012.

With the period, according to the NSE data made available on its website, foreign investors accounted for N972.47 billion or 50.94 per cent of the total within the period, leaving their domestic counterpart with N936.47 billion or 49.06 per cent.



According to him, professionals are always linked to most technical issues involved in many economic crimes the EFCC is investigating. “Most of the corrupt cases we encounter are aided by one professional or another. In money laundering for example, bankers and accountants are involved, in estate and property- related crimes, quantity surveyors are also involved,” he said.
